Neurosurgery without a scalpel

It is known that the mortality rate during brain surgery used to be 30%. But with the development of technology, the methods of treatment also change. Thus, the Swedish neurosurgeon Lars Lexell invented the Gamma Knife.
The Gamma Knife ICON is the most gentle irradiation method available today. At the same time, the success rate of therapy with ICON is over 90% for almost all types of tumors in the treatment of which it is used.
Applications of the Gamma Knife:

• destruction of metastases in the treatment of malignant tumors of the lungs, breast, kidneys and colon,
• treatment of benign brain tumors,
• treatment of congenital vascular brain pathologies,
• treatment of functional neurological disorders that are not amenable to medication,
• treatment of intraocular disorders and tumors.
  Professor Özduman, a neurologist at the Acıbadem Clinic, explains: “The action of the Gamma Knife consists in very precise irradiation of the required area inside the cranium – with the patient’s head fixed. With such a high targeting of the irradiation, the ability to carry out the effect without touching healthy tissues increases many times over. “
  In many cases, gamma-ray irradiation has become a bloodless and effective alternative to surgical methods that are widely used in Turkish clinics.
