Nejat Akalan graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ankara (Turkey) in 1980. He completed his residency and doctoral studies at the Department of Neurosurgery and the Institute of Neurology and Psychiatry at the Hacettepe University of Ankara from 1980 to 1993. He worked as a research assistant at the University of Seattle (USA) in 1988-1989. Received the title of professor of medicine in 2000.

Optical glioma in children: a retrospective analysis of 101 cases.
Primitive neuroectodermal tumors of the central nervous system associated with genetic and metabolic defects.
Myelomeningocele (open spina bifida) is a surgical treatment.
